The Keep on the Borderlands

- Posted in Modules by

B2: The Keep on the Borderlands is a Dungeons & Dragons adventure module by Gary Gygax, first printed in December 1979. In it, player characters are based at a keep and investigate a nearby series of caves that are filled with a variety of monsters. It was designed to be used with the Dungeons & Dragons Basic Set, and was included in the 1979–1982 editions of the Basic Set but works fine with modern retroclones like Basic Fantasy RPG.

Both Basic Fantasy RPG (BFRPG) and Old-School Essentials (OSE) are retroclones inspired by early Dungeons & Dragons, but they have distinct approaches and philosophies. Here are the major differences and reasons you might choose one over the other:

Initially released in 2007, it has the Old-School vibe of a classic. This multi-module work contains fourteen short adventures (over 80 pages of material!) for beginning to mid-level characters.

In Search of the Unknown

Dungeon module B1: In Search of the Unknown is an adventure for the Dungeons & Dragons roleplaying game, designed for use with the Basic Set of rules. It was written by game designer Mike Carr and was first published in 1978 by TSR, Inc. The module details a hidden complex known as the Caverns of Quasqueton.

Vampiric cats? Deadly restrooms? 50% fatality rate?

Despite it's many glaring flaws (it was a product of its time) Judges Guild 1979 solo adventure "Survival of the Fittest" should make you think. We take our characters way too seriously these days. It should always be about the journey.
