BX Forever

Because Moldvay & Cook Got it Right

A Cunning Plan?

- Posted in The Hobby by

Short version: We're gonna cover every BX module and supplement we can find, including third party products, in rough alphabetical order by product code.

Long version: Like a lot of people, it was the COVID lockdown that got me back into role-playing again. And like a lot of people the easiest entry point was 5e on Roll20. To find game that fit my schedule, there wasn't much choice. 5e or nothing.

Now, four years along... Meh. It scratched an itch, but still left me wanting something better. And with the release of D&D 5.5... well, it's not better. Thirty-nine new subclasses? Are you kidding me?

It was time to bail.

So back onto the Internet I went looking for something reminiscent of the game I remember from childhood. Boom. The old red and blue books are available print on demand, and... wow... a plethora of "retroclones." What's this all about? And some are nearly 20 years old. The easiest to dig into was Basic Fantasy RPG. They're literally giving it away, which, by itself wouldn't be enough to make me and my team of nerds into dedicated fans... but it's so good. Totally worth paying for, and yet the physical books are being printed at cost. Unbelievable.

So all the BF material will be covered too.

That's the plan. Hope you stick around.
