Chrysogon's Coterie

- Posted in Books by

Chrysogon's Coterie is a supplement for the Basic Fantasy Role-Playing Game that features 288 non-player characters (NPCs) ranging from levels 1 to 9. The book is designed to be a resource for game masters (GMs) who want to populate their campaigns with interesting and memorable NPCs. The NPCs can also be used as pre-generated player characters with the GM's consent.

One of the key features of Chrysogon's Coterie is the interconnectedness of the NPCs. Many of the characters are friends, family members, or members of the same organizations. This interconnectedness is reflected in the characters' mini-biographies, which often reference each other. For example, Achaicus Spinther is a cleric who knows someone that knows the someone you're inquiring about. His brother, Themistocles Spinther, is a wizard who taught his six younger brothers everything he knew. Themistocles is secretly a member of a covert group called The Octad, which is led by his friend Leofsige Alvine. Leofsige co-founded The Octad with Mallory Freemane, a cleric who is concerned about a group of four invaders called The Tetrad. One of the members of The Tetrad is Valentina Vibulanus, a cleric seems to be responsible for the disappearance of anyone seen in her presence.

The author of Chrysogon's Coterie, Todd Lyons, encourages GMs to use the book as a starting point and to further develop the characters and their relationships. He suggests adding new organizations and factions, and specifying the motivations and plans for existing groups. Ultimately, the goal is to integrate these people into your world, or build a world on top of them.
